FAQ

Warranty information,

All our frames are covered with a lifetime warranty for the original owner. Of course we all know the drill, if you broke it in a race, or crashed it while going into your garage door, that doesn't get covered. But if your frame cracks due to some manufacturing defect that gets covered.

Materials used,

For our tubes we use what is referred to as 3/2.5 Ti (ASTM Grade 9 - CWSR for the nerds). It offers 20 to 50% higher strength than commercially pure grades, but is more formable and weldable than Ti6Al4V. For frame parts we use the stiffer titanium blend 6/4 Ti (ASTM Grade 5) for greater strength and durability.

Do you stress test your frames?

Yes we sure do. All our frames are put through rigorous stress tests with all data recorded to ensure all the welds are structurally strong and our bikes are fit to ride. We wouldn't release a frame out unless it passed these tests.

Who makes your frames?

We are the exception to the rule that "if it's too good to be true, it probably is." You can take pride in the fact that all Papillon frames are designed, finished and assembled right here in Portland, OR - USA. But in order to make our bikes accessible to you without sacrificing quality, we have partnered with a small Ti manufacturer overseas. Keep in mind all frames are hand-built, welded by hand by a skilled frame builder we have screened and selected to focus on our frames. We have built an extremely strong relationship with our partner, and we guarantee a great product. We ride them every day proudly, and as anal as we are, we wouldn't if we didn't believe in our bikes.

Do you offer custom fitting sessions?

Not at this time. We prefer you go visit your local bike store fit professional and tell him your goals, needs and aspirations for your custom frame. Download the form on our site, bring it to your fit session and get your fit pro to fill in the info we need to get you going.

Why won't you recommend a bike size for me?

It's hard to recommend a good frame size to someone over email or a phone call. We recommend you get fit at your local bike store. Or you can tell us what bike you ride and see how we can tweak the geometry to better fit you.

My headbadge fell off.

Don't fret. This means one of 2 things, you're riding hard and all the time and that's great, or you tried to pry it off. Either way, email us, we'll hook you up.

Do you sponsor riders/teams?

Not yet. Do you ride for a team? Tell us more. However we will be starting a Cycles Papillon team soon.

Are your frames light?

It all depends on your specifications, size, and accessories. But average about 1200g to 1850g (for a big fat beefy 29er).

Can I swap certain parts on the Papillon Classic?

Not really. We've tuned this ride to be a perfect bike. All the parts compliment the frame design and ride quality. Of course parts are subject to change based on availability but we usually update the spec page with the most current groupo available on the build.

Can I test ride a frame?

Since we don't have a brick and mortar location, we can't offer test rides yet. Most custom manufacturers do not offer test bikes. But ask us, we might have a few frames being built that you can ride around the block. Or you can test ride one of our personal frames (we ride 60cm or 58cm depending)

Who assembles your bikes?

We only work with like minded people who live and breathe bikes as much as we do. We got you covered with the best bicycle repairmen.

How long till I get my bike?

From the time you place your order and we get your deposit, expect your bike in 8 -10 weeks. (could be less if you only want a frame).

I want some stickers.

Email us your address and once you have them, please send us where you put them so we can update our blog. (be respectful of course, not everyone wants a sticker on their windshield)

Can I come visit your space?

Not really. We don't have a store yet. Soon...
